  • News Reporter: Covering politics, crime, courts and sprawl. Current focus is on education, particularly the Camden City school district and the ongoing issues involving missing funds, cheating scandals and widespread violence.
  • Multimedia Duties: Shooting and editing news and feature video; taking still photos for print and online; preparing and narrating audio slideshows. Multimedia work is often done simultaneously with written coverage.
  • Nationally Syndicated Columnist, June 2003 to April 2007: "Gender Lines," a weekly light-hearted look at the changing relations between the genders in politics, work, technology, marriage and my own life. Formerly called "The Bachelor Pad," a first-person dispatch from the front lines of dating and the only newspaper dating column by a male writer in the U.S. Published in more than 50 newspapers nationally; the most widely used column syndicated by Gannett.
  • Enterprise Writing: A series told the story of a 22-year-old mother's final weeks fighting cancer; "State Secrets" exposed the military's cover-up of a 1948 plane crash; articles about a disabled flood victim chronicled the rebuilding of his home; weeks of reporting told the story of homeless people living in tents next to the on-ramp of a highway.

Daily Record, Morris County, N.J., July 2000—November 2002

  • Municipal Reporter: Covered the county seat; promoted twice from two smaller town beats.
  • Lead Reporter/Columnist: Based in New York City during the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attack and its aftermath.
  • Enterprise Writing: Package about working poor in motels landed families in homes; articles about the offensive "Redskins" name led a high school to change its nickname and sports mascot.
